Coldest Nights Program Staff

The Journey Home is looking for Female Part-time Staff members for the Coldest Nights program, an overnight emergency shelter program serving unsheltered adults. The program is provided collaboratively with First Baptist Church, Murfreesboro Cold Patrol, Murfreesboro Rescue Mission and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. The Journey Home is the lead agency, and staff are temporary employees of The Journey Home.

Coldest Nights operates two shelters, a men’s and women’s, during the cold weather season. Shelters will be open on nights when the forecasted low temperature is 32 degrees or below. Shelters will be open from November 15th through March 15th.

Participants are offered a meal, safe sleeping accommodations out of the elements, and fellowship. Staff members are responsible for program operations, maintaining a safe and orderly environment and making sure the facilities are kept clean. Training will be provided and is required for all positions.

There are two shifts: Supper/check-in shift reports from 5:30 p.m. to approximately 8:30 p.m., assisting with the supper meal and shelter check-in; the overnight shift from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. is responsible for the check-in process and overnight security.

We believe that this is an excellent opportunity for people from a wide range of ages (including students and retirees) and backgrounds who desire to help their neighbor in need. Qualifications
21 years of age or older, High school diploma or equivalent, preferred, Drug-free with no violent criminal history, Stable housing history, Highly reliable/dependable and organized, Able to work independently, execute written instructions and communicate effectively Basic computer skills to complete simple forms and on-line check-in Friendly, positive attitude, cordial personality (i.e. social, relationship-oriented), Ability to de-escalate conflicts and encourage cooperation, Experience working with the homeless population and/or those with mental illness is helpful Experience in security, law enforcement, military or social work is useful, Reference from local church, non-profit/social service volunteering preferred.
