FEATURED ARTISTS

Tim James

Tim James’ success includes cuts by Montgomery Gentry, Alabama, Chris Young, Buddy Jewel, Craig Morgan, Point Of Grace, Lee Ann Womack and others. Receiving an ASCAP award for “It’s Good To Be Us” by Bucky Covington and a BMI award for “Holler Back” by the Lost Trailers, James says the awards he didn’t win were the most satisfying. “I was nominated for a Grammy award for Best Country Song in 2009 for “All I Ask For Anymore” by Trace Adkins,” says James. “And just to be able to go back to L.A. and attend the Grammys was an all-time highlight,” he says. In 2011, James was nominated for the ACM Song of the Year with “Love Like Crazy” recorded by Lee Brice. It remains the longest-running song in the history of the Billboard charts.

Singles such as “He’s Mine” by Rodney Atkins followed. James once again topped the charts in 2013 with “Give It All We Got Tonight,” George Strait’s 60th number one song. In 2015, James, Darius Rucker and Rivers Rutherford wrote two songs, “So I Sang” and the title track “Southern Style” for the #1 album “Southern Style” by Darius. They most recently wrote the Chris Stapleton song “Either Way” from the Grammy-winning Album of the Year, “From A Room, Volume 1.”

Dan Couch

Dan Couch moved to Nashville in 1995 and earned himself a couple of publishing deals, staff writing for BMG for three and a half years then signing with Malaco for another three. When Malaco closed its doors and Couch lost his publisher, he made a risky decision: to continue writing without seeking a new publishing deal. Though this meant he’d retain 100% of the publishing royalties from any songs of his that were recorded, publishers pay advances, pitch songs, handle royalty collections, and arrange co-writes — tasks that are much more challenging for a writer to tackle without a team.

“God definitely smiled on me and my wife,” he says. “My wife is a labor and delivery nurse, so she was able to sort of keep us floating. Then it just happened that I started writing with a guy named Kip Moore that nobody knew anything about, and the rest is history. I just got really, really lucky.”

Couch has been writing professionally since 1999 and has had more than 75 songs recorded by artists such as Kip Moore, Cody Johnson, Elvie Shane, Canaan Smith, Lauren Alaina, and Craig Campbell. His songs have reached the Billboard Top 40 country charts numerous times, including two #1 efforts with “Somethin’ Bout a Truck” and “Hey Pretty Girl” — both songs that he co-wrote with his buddy and longtime collaborator Kip Moore. Dan has seven songs on the new Kip Moore record titled “Damn Love” and has multiple songs coming out on the next Elvie Shane record.
